Product Care

ModernHyde products are built for real use.  Proper care will ensure long-term performance and durability.

Leather Care

Leather is a natural material and will change with use.

  • Expect variation in color, grain and finish.
  • Leather will soften and develop character over time.
  • Exposure to moisture, sweat and heat will accelerate wear.

To maintain performance:

  • Keep leather clean and dry when possible
  • If exposed to moisture, allow it to air dry naturally
  • do not use direct heat to dry (no dryers, heaters or harsh, direct sunlight)
  • periodically condition with a light application of conditioner or wax as needed (Smith's or Otterwax are recommended brands).

Leather components are treated with oils and waxes for durability and water resistance, but they are not waterproof.

Kydex care

Kydex is durable but can be affected by extreme conditions

  • Do not leave in high heat environments. (vehicles, direct sun for extended periods)
  • Excessive heat can cause deformation and loss of retention.
  • Clean with mild soap and water as needed, or use an automotive interior cleaner/ conditioner that is non greasy.  Remoil is also a good product for a quick wipe down clean.

Hardware and Retention care

  • Check all hardware periodically to ensure proper tightness.
  • Threadlocker is applied during assembly but may require reapplication over time
  • Blue (medium strength) threadlocker is recommended when reapplying.
  • Retention may be adjusted where applicable based on end user preference
  • Runner and leather washers are designed to absorb stress and may compress slightly over time.  

Screw tension may change with use and movement.  Regular inspection and adjustment will help maintain consistent retention and performance.  The use of a light gun oil, Rem Oil or Ballistol can be used to treat the steel hardware and protect it from rust and corrosion.

Intended Use

ModernHyde products are designed and built for daily carry, training and real- world use.

They are intended to handle consistent wear, repeated use and demanding conditions.  Materials and construction methods are selected for durability and long- term performance in mind.

At the same time, no product is indestructible.  Damage resulting from intentional abuse, improper modification, or extreme environmental exposure falls outside normal use. 

Bottom line:  Use it hard.  Don't do dumb things with it.
