It Started at the Bench
ModernHyde didn't start with a business plan. It started with a fascination for craftsmanship and an obsession with building things better.
For over a decade, I've spent mornings before work, late nights after work, weekends, mistakes, failures, redesigns, and thousands of hours learning what works and what doesn't.
Not as a businessman.
As a craftsman. As a maker.
Doing my best, putting everything into my work
Every cut, every stitch, every mold, every pattern, and every revision became part of the cycle. It was my process.
The goal was never to build the most products or go viral.
The goal was to build products worth carrying.
ModernHyde is the result of that pursuit- a workshop built around quality, function, and a refusal to take shortcuts.
The Grind
Building ModernHyde meant betting on an idea. It meant sacrificing time, comfort, and certainty in pursuit of a dream. In pursuit of a craft.
There have been plenty of failures.
Designs that didn't work. Materials that didn't hold up. Projects that ended up in the trash.
The process became:
Build. Test. Fail. Trash. Repeat.
Again and again until the result was something I would trust myself.
That process never stops. Every product is still being refined. Every order teaches me something new. Every day at the bench is another opportunity to improve.
To be better. To evolve. To revolve.
The Goods
Each product is designed with specific use cases in mind:
- Reinforced mouth structure for consistent draw and re-holster.
- Clearance built in for extended controls without sacrificing retention, feeling or comfort
- Materials selected for Durability, comfort, and long- term wear
- Clean, low- profile designs for concealment, comfort and stability
Leather, Kydex and other composites are used where each performs best- never forced into roles they don't serve well.
The Process
Products are made in small batches, allowing for close control over fit, finish and function.
Leather components are hand cut, dyed in small batches, and finished individually- resulting in natural variation in tone and character from piece to piece. These are treated more like work boots or saddlery than decorative goods. The leather is conditioned with neatsfoot oil, then sealed and protected with beeswax on the edges and additional waterproofing waxes on the main body. The goal is durability, resistance to the elements, and a finish that improves with use- not something that looks good only when new.
Stitching is done with attention to tension, spacing and long- term wear. Edges are finished, burnished and sealed for durability. Reinforcement components are integrated to maintain structure over time, especially at the mouth and mounting point areas.
Kydex components are formed and trimmed with structure and toughness in mind. Material is intentionally left around high-stress areas- curves, edges, and mounting points- rather than cut back for appearance and size alone. This maintains structural integrity over time and prevents cracking or deformation under load.
Mounting hardware is selected for reliability. Attachment points use rubber and leather washers to absorb shock, reduce stress on the material, and maintain consistent retention. Hardware is chosen for strength and longevity- there are no downgraded or budget attachment options.
Every decision in the build process is made to support function, durability, and real- world use. These products are designed and intended to last a lifetime of hard use, be easily serviceable and repairable by the end user or ModernHyde, and is backed by a lifetime workmanship warranty.
This isn't mass production. Each piece is built with attention to detail and consistency, with control over the process, ensuring it performs the same way every time it's used.
